International
Mountaineering Film Festival
Teplice nad Metuji, Czech RepublicDirector: Maria Jirmannova

The first International
Mountaineering Film Festival in Teplice nad MetujĖ took place in 1981 when the climber,
photographer and film maker Miroslav Smid with his fellows managed to set up a short
display of films by his friends-climbers.
In the first annuals the Festival
had been approached mainly as a friendly meeting, an opportunity to share the experiences
from the mountains from all over the world.
After the revolutionary events in 1989 the
Festival had been cut for a period of three years.
However, the tragic death of Miroslav Smid,
the Festival's founder, in 1993, was an impulse for a group of his friends to restore the
faded away glory and the atmosphere of the Festival.
18th IMFF will take place in August, from
the 23rd to the 26th, 2001, and will see there categories in
competition: climbing, sports in the mountains and nature and life in the mountains.
