Maciste, main character of several films, was famous at the time of silent films. In this film, he fights the Austro-Hungarian army during the First World War. While shooting a film, at the beginning of the war, Macistès troop is stopped at a border village. After sudden change of fortune, Maciste beats the Austrians and uses some of them as a sledge. He sets a countess free and then frees his father from a castle occupied by the enemy. Maciste Alpino was one of the most important productions of Itala Films, both artistically as well as in terms of revenue. This print has been restored by the National Cinema Museum, with the support of the City of Valtournenche.
