From of its mythical image of adventure to it present popular, consumerist style for middle-class trekking fans, Everest, the Magic Mountain, has become a hiking destination for the average tourist. Modernisation has arrived along its cliffs, involving the Nepalese Sherpa who have seen the transformation of their own culture and way of life since the titanic mountain was conquered in 1953. Expeditions, tourists, trekking agencies that propose travel packages including the guaranteed arrival at the rooftop of the world.
DIRECTOR
Francese, Jean Afanassieff was born in 1954. With a passion for mountain climbing, he has taken part in several expeditions: the ascent of Mount Ross in Kerguelen Island, the north face of Fitz Roy in Patagonia, Everest, Nanga Parbat, K2, Broad Peak, Annapurna, etc.
His passion led him to become an alpine guide, technical adviser and filmmaker. His films have taken part in major mountain film-festival, winning several prizes.
