The idea of this film review comes from the co-operation between ALP Magazine, Regione Autonoma Valle d'Aosta and Comune of Valtournenche. The aim is to exalt and to promote cinema and television production, of documentary and fiction films, in the mountains and adventure field.

The most attractive films produced all over the world has been shown at "Cinéma des Guides", at the very foot of Mount Cervino-Matterhorn, a place which is a book mark in History of mountaineering.

The Jury was composed by well known personalities belonging to the Mountains world and filmdom, and by the Director of one of the International Mountain Film Festivals. At the end of the review, two prizes has been awarded: the first one, "Premio ALP/CERVINO", to a film to be chosen among those awarded a "Gran Premio"; by the official Juries of the most important Mountain Film Festivals in 1997; the second prize ,"Premio PLATEAU ROSA", to a film chosen among those recommended by Film Festival directors (films which already received a "Gran Premio" are of course excluded).

This film review will be a good opportunity to test new trends and perspectives of mountain Cinema, in a moment when traditional productions linked to mountaineering performances are suffering a crisis and are exploring new horizons, from ethnographical research, to the description of mountain culture and environment, to adventure in all its forms.
