Festival
International du Film Alpin
Les Diablerets, SwitzerlandDirector:
Pierre Simoni
Over thirty years ago, Jacques Lavenex and some of his
mountaineering friends, fond of cinema, launched Le Festival International du Film
Alpin (FIFAD), with the aim to promote and develop film production in the
mountains. Its purpose was to make the Alps, and mountains worldwide, better
known along with their inhabitants, both in Switzerland and abroad.
FIFAD is now the only Swiss festival which promotes
and defends mountain culture. It is the second most important event of its kind in the
world, after the Trento Festival.
In 1978 it was the first to deal with the issue of mountain
environment protection and added to its competition a new category dedicated to this
theme. Another original feature is the Alpine Merit, created in 1972 to reward those
climbers, often anonymous, who have dedicated most of their lives to helping others. In
more than thirty years, the winners include famous names such as AndrČ Roch, Marcel
Ichac, René Arnold, Guido Tonella, Franco Garda and Loulou Boulaz.
This year edition will take place from 22nd to
30th September ad it will be, as usual, a joyful party and meeting of those who
love cinema and mountaineering.
