2004 AWARD OF INTERNATIONAL ALLIANCE FOR MOUNTAIN FILM
The 2004 special award from the International Alliance for Mountain Film goes to
Fulvio Mariani, in recognition of his more then twenty year career in mountain cinema.
Fulvio Mariani is a director and producer, born in 1958
in La Chaux de Fonds in Switzerland. He has passionately devoted himself to mountaineering
and photography since he was a boy. In 1981, he began working as a cameraman at the RTSI.
He participated in the international expedition to the south face of Lhotse lead by
Reinhold Messner, where he produced "200 metri al 21ˇ secolo" and also an
expedition lead by Jerzy Kukuczka. "L'anno nero del Serpente" is his tribute to
this great Polish mountaineer. He was responsible for the cinematography for "Grido
di Pietra" by Werner Herzog and in 1994 along with Andrea Gobetti he co-produced
"L'uomo di legno". In 1999, together with Giovanni Cenacchi, he made the
documentary "I cavalieri delle vertigini", awarded with the Genziana d'Oro at
the Trento Film Festival and the grand prix at the Cervino Film Festival. He produced and
directed together with Mario Casella, "Hurricane, la Pompei degli scalpellini d'America".
He has personally chosen this film to be screened during the evening in his honour at the
Cervino International Film Festival, as he did with the other Alliance film festival. He
proposed a short film on the late mountaineer, Patrick Bérhault.
