AUTRANS FILM FESTIVAL

LE CERVIN FAIT SON CINEMA
SWITZERLAND 2001, 31', col., video
Director: Luca de Luigi
Script: Luca de Luigi, Benoît Aymon
Cameraman: Jacky Mahrer
Editing: Robert Mabillard
Production: Television Suisse Romande
Distribution: Television Suisse Romande

The history of mountaneeiring has been largely written at the bottom of the Matterhorn. But it has been a drama since the beginning, for the four dead during the first ascent in July 1865, that contributed to forging its legend.

A legend that, maybe, would not exist without the cinema. We watch at some fragments of exceptional documents, like, for example, the images of a film from 1901 (one of the oldest ones in Swiss cinema), of which a copy was found by chance in a cupboard (the original is laying at the bottom of the Atlantic together with its owner).

The Matternhorn and the cinema make a true love story….
