POPRAD FILM FESTIVAL

GROENLANDIA, UN DESTINO DI GHIACCIO
Greenland, a Destiny of Ice
ITALY 2000, 18', col., video
Director: Mario Nardin
Text: Silvia Bolzoni
Cameraman: Mario Nardin
Editing: Mario Nardin, Silvia Bolzoni
Production: Mario Nardin

In spite of its name, Greenland is one of the most isolate places in the world, with a surface covered by 86% with ice. Life in small villages is confronted with a grand but hostile nature, characterized by huge emptiness and solitude. The immense whiteness of the landscape and the attachement of people to a destiny that has little to offer turn one of the world's most inhospitable lands into a place of moving purity.

DIRECTOR
Mario Nardin was born in Bolzano. After graduating in Medicine, he started making documentaries especially on ethnographic subjects. His works include Destinazione Koutialia (1998), Pachamana (1997), Surma (1997), L'India dei totem e degli dei (1998), La porta dell'ignoto (2000), Alzalai (2001).
