SPECIAL PRIZE TO GERHARD BAUR
During
the last meeting in Trento, in occasion of 50th Trento International
Mountain Film Festival, the Festivals members of the International
Alliance for Mountain Film have decided to assign a special award
to a director or an important personality especially involved
in promoting the relationship bewteen cinema and mountain. The
prize has been assigned this year to German director Gerhard Baur,
for the excellent quality of his video and film realized during
30 years of activity.
Born
in 1947, in 1976 he won the Grand Prix at the Trento Film Festival
with Kangchendzonga. In 1985 Die Eintscheidung,
film about the fear and indecisions in making an extreme descent
with skies, won Baur many awards. In 1986 with Der Weg ist
das Ziel-Die Grandes Jorasses Nordwand he won the Gran Prix
at Les Diablerets, Torello and Banff Film Festivals. In 1989 he
directed Nanga Parbat-Schicksalberg der Detuschen, in 1991Dolomiten-Mythen
aus Stein and in 1992 Der Weg der bunten Steine. In den Lechtaler
Alpen. In 1997 he won the Grand Prix at Trento Film Festival
for the second time with Bergkristall Paul Membrini-ein Strahlensucher
auf extremen Wegen. In 2001 Das Drama in der Eiger Nordwand
won the Gran Proix at Torell oFilm Festival and partecipated at
Cervino Film Festival in Grand Prox competition. Baur is regarded
one of the best cinematographic stry-tellers of fiction films
and documentaries about mountaineering.
