Director

GAUTHIER FLAUDER was born in
1961. After an initial period spent in journalism, he moved on to documentary work. He has
directed many award-winning films: Les cueilleurs de ciel (1995), in which he tells
about the relationship between a coconut picker and his monkey in the Sumatra plantations;
Lalibela (1996), winner of the Banff Festival, a documentary which takes us to the
most sacred sactuary of the Ethiopian orthodox church; La Jerusalem noire (1996),
which describes a visit to an extraordinary Ethiopian sanctuary during Easter week and
finally Les missionnaires de la pub (1997), an original work in which an unusual
theatre company preaches the "good news" of consumerism to some of the remotest
villages in the Papuan mountains. Un Eden au Sahara has been screened at various
international Festivals, winning the Prix du Public in Toulon and the Prize for the Best
Film on Mountain Culture at the Banff Festival.

THE SAHARA'S SECRET GARDEN
UN EDEN AU SAHARA
IL GIARDINO SEGRETO DEL SAHARA
Gauthier Flauder, France, 2000,
52, col, videoIn Northern Chad, in the heart
of the Sahara Desert, lies a forgotten mountain massif sheltering a flora and fauna of
breathtaking beauty in its secret canyons.
Even today, access to the Ennedi Massif is difficult, and
only a few rare nomads have been privileged to penetrate the heart of this astounding
region, which gelously hides the last proofs of a world disappeared long ago: the Sahara
before the Sahara
