Director

CARLO ROSSI was born in Aosta in 1954. He has been working for 25 years at the RAI Regional Office for the Aosta Valley. A director of documentaries and regional programmes on  the mountains, Carlo's numerous films include: Due pattini e un banco, De Fontramora à l’Orouppa (1990), Come esempio lo stambecco (1991), Il passo in curva, Allez Garin (1993), L’eve di torron (1995), Ettore e Bruno storie di pietre e di corsa (1996), Se ti è nato il gusto di scoprire (1997) and Moureun la Reina (1999). Many of his films received awards in various international Festivals.

Is it possible for you to climb to the top of K2 whilst filming the feat? Is it possible to climb the 8,611 metres of the second highest mountain in the world whilst commenting on your own pictures?

Abele Blanc did just that, achieving not only the first Valdostan climb on K2, but also an authentic and original story.

Abele Blanc, together with another Valdostan guide, Marco Camandona and the Brazilian Waldermar Niclevicz, reached K2 on 29^th July 2000, to honour the memory of three Valdostan guides, Mario Puchoz, Ubaldo Rey and Sergio Viotto, members of the first successful expedition to K2 in 1954.

For Abele, who was born in 1954, the completion of this exploit was the realisation of a great dream, as well as the eleventh "8000" climbed by him.
