Screening of extracts from the AUTRANS INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION (FRANCE) "THE MOUNTAIN IN ADVERTISING" introduced by Mireille Chiocca, Autrans Festival Director.

Screening of TV ADS WITH MIKE BONGIORNO ON MATTERHORN, for Grappa Bocchino, in the presence of Alfieri Canavero, Director of photography, in collaboration with Museo Nazionale della Montagna "Duca degli Abruzzi"-CAI-Torino.

Giorgio Daidola (telemarker, photographer and editor of the Rivista della Montagna) and Jean Michel Asselin (editor-in-chief of the VerticalRoc magazine) present the EXPEDITION TO THE AMNYE MACHEN – 6288 M IN TIBET, one of the projects chosen by Polartec Challenge for the 2001.

Documentary TRA I FIGLI DEL CIELO by Venanzio Sella (1925) 40'
National première of the restored print. The restoration has been carried out by the Museo Nazionale del Cinema, Turin, in collaboration with the Chinese Department of Foreign Languages and Literature at Turin University.
Presentation by Stefano Della Casa, Director of the Turin Film Festival.

In 1925 Venanzio Sella visited China in a sensitive period of political transition. His film is a major testimony of historical, documentary and anthropological interest. From the images of Sun Yat-sen’s pompous funerals to the hectic and fascinating everyday life in a Bejing long gone.

National première of an excerpt of the film VAJONT by Renzo Martinelli and of the documentary on the making of the film’s special effects.
9th October 1963, h. 22.39: 260 million cubic metres of rock fell from Mt. Toc, beyond the Vajont dam, in the artificial lake below. A 250 metre-high wave rose above the dam, 50 million cubic metres of water lifted up toward the sky like a giant liquid mushroom which fell heavily on to the valley, sweeping away the villages underneath it. More than 2000 people died.
VAJONT tells the story of Man who has not been able to understand Nature. VAJONT is also a great story of civil commitment, backed up by a spectacular and extremely captivating structure.

Screening of the reportage on the EXPEDITION TO THE NORTH POLE, produced by Mediaset, which saw the participation, amongst others, of Mike Bongiorno, His Royal Highness Prince Amedeo of Savoie, Duke of Aosta and Hans Kammerlander.

Talk by Donata Lodi, Unicef’s Public Relations Officer, on the living and working conditions of children in Asia.
Documentary FINIREMO DOMANI by Frode Hojer Pedersen (1995) 26’
A UNICEF – DANMARKSDRTV production.
This is the story of some girls from very poor families in Nepalese mountain villages, sold to agents who force them to work in a carpet factory, under inhuman conditions. Shot in Nepal using the docudrama technique, the whole story was reconstructed and filmed using the real protagonists, a few months after the events.

THE ROPE OF SOLIDARITY: a meeting and debate on Mountains and young people with problems. A comparison of various major support initiatives aimed at teaching young people with problems respect for the mountains through trekking and climbing. With Don Luigi Ciotti, Gruppo Abele, Michele Zani, Cooperative La Carovana and Angelo Pozzi, Alpiteam di Seregno. Moderator: Enrico Camanni.

Presentation of an excerpt from the LUIS TRENKER - THE MYTH OF THE MOUNTAIN IN PRINT exhibition, of the Museo Nazionale della Montagna "Duca Degli Abruzzi" – CAI-Torino and Regione Piemonte with Club Alpino Italiano, Fondazione CRT, Movieman Productions.

FIRST CONGRESS OF THE ITALIAN ASSOCIATION OF MOUNTAIN JOURNALISTS (AIGM)
The AIGM, which has been officially recognised by the National Italian Press Federation, has been recently launched to provide information about all the various aspects of life in the mountains: climbing, sport, environmental issues, cultural events, etc. The meeting will focus on the activities of the fledgling AIGM and some initiatives currently being developed.
At the end: presentation of the book La corda d’argento by Adolfo Pascariello, Zeisciu. Presentation by the author.

Presentation of the book IL MONDO DALL’ALTO, by Livio Sposito, Sperling & Kupfer.
The book retraces various attempts by Whymper, who fell in love with the Alps during a business trip, and by Carrel (local guide), to climb Matterhorn and finally tells of the conquering of the summit, in 1865, and the disaster occurred during the descent.

Presentation of the book E ANCORA LA NEVE, by Rolly Marchi, Mondadori.
Rolly Marchi’s autobiographical novel, since his birth in the Trentino region, in 1921, until his 80th birthday, recently celebrated. Simple and true feelings, rather forgotten these days, of great loves and friends, Buzzati and Guttuso, Leni Riefensthal and Alida Valli, and many others. A sincere and captivating story, up to the thought expressed in the last two lines of text, dedicated to the snow, faithful companion and happiness bearer.
