Director

GERHARD BAUR was born in 1947. In 1976 he won
the Grand Prix at the Trento Festival with Kangchendzonga. In 1985, La decisione
won Baur many awards. In 1986 with Der Weg ist das Ziel - Die Grandes Jorasses Nordwand
he won the Grand Prix at Les Diablerets, Torello and Banff Festivals. In 1989 he directed Nanga
Parbat - Schicksalsberg der Deutschen, in 1991 Dolomiten - Mythen aus Stein and
in 1992 Der Weg der bunten Steine. In den Lechtaler Alpen. In 1997 he won the Grand
Prix at the Trento Festival for the second time with Bergkristall Paul Membrini - ein
Strahlensucher auf extremen Wegen. Baur is regarded as one of the best cinematographic
story-tellers of fiction films and documentaries about mountaineering.

between life and death on the North face of the Eiger.
Whilst they were engaged in the climb, a sudden change in weather, when they were half
way up the face, destroyed their dreams and hopes. |
