GERHARD BAUR was born in 1947. In 1976 he won the Grand Prix at the Trento Festival with Kangchendzonga. In 1985, La decisione won Baur many awards. In 1983, two young climbers from Allgäu, Holger Wendel and Thomas Burger, came close to the frontier between life and death on the North face of the Eiger.

Whilst they were engaged in the climb, a sudden change in weather, when they were half way up the face, destroyed their dreams and hopes.
